A new startup company, Golden Raub Durian (GRD) in Malaysia has got funded through 1st and 2nd round funding recently. GRD is to focus on planting of exotic variety durian called Musang King (MK) Durian for supply to local and international market i.e China, Singapore, Vietnam and other countries. The demand of MK durian has been tremendous in China. Currently demand is exceeding supply with only less than 5% of durian available to China market being MK Durian.
Price of Grade A Musang King has been good and stable due to the usage of frozen technology introduced by FAMA (Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, Malaysia), a government agency. This allow the MK Durian to be available throughout the year from the 1 month fruiting season.
Currently GRD is starting up with a 20-acre farm in Raub, Pahang, the capital MK Durian in Malaysia, and planning to expand to 300-acre farms in the next 5 years, emphasizing more of high value farming rather than size. The return of investment is expected to be very good for this strong asset-based industry with extremely high value creation through planting of the MK Durian, which has life period more than 50 years. The established downstream options such as frozen fruit, pulp, paste and powder further increase the demand.
“We are very excited with this venture, the beautiful ways how we work and plan to support the demand. We have strong initial shareholders, so enthusiastic in creating a long-term present in this Musang King Durian farming’, said GRD’s founder and Chairman Abd Rashid Munir.
GRD is expected to raise more fund from local and international equity market in the coming years in order to fund the expansion of its business
